Construction of new projects
LNPS Phase II is the only nuclear power project constructed during the 10th Five Year Plan and is a leading project under the national self-reliance program of the industry. Two CPR1000 units of 1000 MWe class are planned. The main structural works started on December 15, 2005, with planned commercial service of two units in 2010 and 2011, respectively. In accordance with the national objectives of “self-reliance in design, manufacturing, construction and operation”, the project management, engineering, equipment manufacture and surveillance, construction and technical services are undertaken by the local Chinese organizations with the equipment localization rate exceeding 50% for Unit 1 and 70% for Unit 2 respectively. To improve the safety and economy level of the plant, 15 important technical improvements and more than 40 other improvements will be implemented through close cooperation with domestic design and research institute, which include the digital control systems, advanced control room, half-speed turbine and etc.. Serving as the connecting link in the country’s nuclear power development, LNPS Phase II will give further impetus to the mastery of the improved version of the 2nd Generation of PWRs in terms of engineering, equipment manufacture technologies to realize localization and self-reliance capabilities, thereby laying a solid foundation to introduce, digest and assimilate the 3rd Generation of nuclear technology.
YNPS is situated in Dongping Town, Yangjiang City in western Guangdong Province. A total of six 3rd Generation units of 1000 MWe class or larger are foreseen for the site, and will be constructed in two or three phases with two units planned for the first phase. On September 2, 2004, the State approved the YNPS project proposal and the main structural work is planned to commence in 2008 and commercial operation planned around 2013. Currently, YNPS site reclamation (1st stage) is completed, and reclamation (2nd stage), marine works and reservoir along with other preparatory works are being executed, as planned.
Situated in Dalian City of Liaoning Province, Liaoning Hongyanhe NPP is the first nuclear power project built in northeast China. A total of six PWR units of 1000 MWe class are planned for the site, which will be constructed in several phases. Phase I will be four CPR1000 units of 1000 MWe class. The project is a joint venture among CGNPC, China Power Investment Corporation (CPIC) and Liaoning Construction Investment Group, CGNPC will be responsible for the project construction and the operation of the first five years after commercial operation with participation from CPIC. On June 28, 2006, excavation for Nuclear Island of Phase I commenced. Currently, the Nuclear Island bases of Unit 1 and 2 have passed completion acceptance and the Project Feasibility Study Report is under review by the National Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute.
Situated in Fuding City of Fujian Province, Ningde NPP is planned with six PWR units of 1000 MWe class to be constructed in several phases. Phase I will be two PWR units of 1000 MWe class, which is a joint investment between CGNPC, accounting for 51% of the investment, and China Datang Corporation, accounting for 49%. On September 1, 2006, the National Development and Reform Commission has approved the commencement of preparatory activities of Phase I. The project is planned to launch in 2008 and put into commercial operation around 2012. Currently, the Site Safety Assessment Report and Environmental Impact Report (for site selection stage) have passed the review by NNSA. Preparatory works such as civil work and access road are well under going.
